The Duval County Clerk of Courts is administering the annual opportunity for people with past due fines and fees to catch up and qualify for restoration of their driving privileges.

Operation Green Light, March 28 through April 1, is a statewide initiative sponsored by Florida clerks and comptrollers. It allows people who have overdue traffic tickets or criminal fees to pay in full while waiving the collections surcharge.

“Operation Green Light offers a great opportunity for people to pay what they owe and get back on the road safely. The Clerk’s Office hopes that all those with outstanding traffic tickets or fees takes advantage of this statewide effort to waive the collections surcharge,” Duval County Clerk Jody Phillips said in a news release.

This year’s schedule is 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 28 through April 1 in person at the Duval County Courthouse and the Clerk’s Beaches Branch at 1543 Atlantic Blvd. in Neptune Beach.

In 2019, the year before the pandemic temporarily closed the courthouse and branch offices, payments totaling $317,536 were made on 1,191 cases and 564 people had their driver license reinstated or were made eligible for reinstatement.

The program was conducted virtually for the past two years because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In 2020, the first year of the pandemic shutdown, $33,616 was paid on 139 cases and 89 people were reinstated or made eligible.

Last year, payments totaling $120,495 were made for 445 cases and 266 people were reinstated or made eligible.

Extended evening hours will be available at the courthouse until 7 p.m. March 31. No appointments are needed to participate. Those interested can walk in during program hours.

The collections surcharge only is waived through participation in Operation Green Light. By Florida law, late fees cannot be waived.

Payment can be made online by visiting epay.duvalclerk.com. To have the collections fee waived, payment must be received by 5 p.m. April 1.

Only Duval County citations and criminal fines can be paid through the clerk’s office.
