The property at 5419 Woodcrest Road  in West Jacksonville  has an asking price of $629,000. Owner Todd Smith is selling the property through his company Blue Horizon Real Estate. The property’s current taxable value is $158,807.

The main house was built in 1950. Their parents remained in the home until they died.

Ronnie Van Zant, guitarist Steve Gaines, backup singer Cassie Gaines, assistant road manager Dean Kilpatrick along with the pilot and co-pilot died in an airplane crash in Mississippi on Oct. 20, 1977.

Smith purchased the property that consists of five units in December 2015 from W&W Woodcrest LLC of Jacksonville for $67,500.

Three units are occupied by full-time renters while the 1,500-square-foot main house and 800-square-foot annex are rented as Airbnbs.

The main house rents for $200 per night.

Since buying the property, Smith said he had spent between $150,000 and $200,000 renovating the properties. He has kept the main house looking as it did when the Van Zant family lived there.

The property was recognized by the state as a historical place in 2018. A marker telling of the house’s history is in front of the property.

Smith listed the house on May 23 and he said there has been interest, but no formal offers as of May 25.

Smith lists the per-unit price at $125,000.

In 2021, the Daily Record reported that Van Zant House Inc. was seeking to raise $300,000 to $500,000 through a crowdfunding campaign.

Smith told ActionNewsJax.com in February he canceled that effort.

In February, a Kickstarter campaign was launched for landscaping improvements for the house. After 60 days, it raised $2,121 of its $10,000 goal with 14 backers.

Pictures and information about the main house can be found at airbnb.com under The Van Zant House (Lynyrd Skynyrd).
