Because of the reorganization of Florida’s appellate courts, there are four vacancies to be filled on the 5th District Court of Appeal.

Fifth DCA Judges Jay Cohen, Meredith Sasso, Dan Tarver, Mary Alice Nardella and Carrie Ann Wozniak of the 5th DCA are assigned to the new 6th DCA.

Gov. Ron DeSantis directs the 5th DCA Judicial Nominating Commission to provide him with qualified nominees for the vacancies.

The application form may be downloaded at flgov.com/judicial-and-judicial-nominating-commission-information/.

Completed applications must be received by 5 p.m. Sept. 28 via e-mail to commission Chair Joe Jacquot at [email protected].

Interviews will be scheduled Oct. 16-19 at the 5th DCA Courthouse in Daytona Beach.

Incomplete applications and applications submitted after the deadline will not be considered.

Further, all applicants must meet the qualifications for judges outlined in Article V, Section 8 of the Florida Constitution, including being a practicing member of The Florida Bar for at least 10 years.

Personal information not subject to public disclosure should be redacted on a separate copy of the application as permitted by Section 119.071 of the Florida Statutes.

All proceedings of the commission are open to the public except for deliberations. Accordingly, applicants should not expect their application to be kept confidential.

If an applicant is nominated, all materials attached to the original application will be submitted to the governor’s Office of General Counsel.

Questions about the application process can be sent to Jacquot via email or by phone to 904-350-7414, or email Amanda Carl at [email protected].

Applicants shall not initiate contact with the commissioners until the nominees are submitted to DeSantis, unless questions pertain to the application process only.
