Atlanta-based Smith, Gambrell & Russell and Freeborn & Peters, based in Chicago, announced Jan. 24 that the collective partners unanimously approved combining the two law firms and will operate under the Smith Gambrell Russell name, effective March 1.

The combination of the business transactional and litigation firms will create a network of nearly 400 attorneys in 14 U.S and global offices and more than $260 million in gross annual revenues.

“They are a strong litigation firm and we are strong in mergers and acquisitions and other transactions. This allows us to expand the depth and breadth of service and the pool of experience in areas we haven’t historically practiced,” Steve Brust, managing partner of SG&R’s Jacksonville office, said after the announcement.

SG&R has offices in Atlanta; Austin, Texas; Charlotte, North Carolina; Chicago; Jacksonville; London; Los Angeles; Miami; Munich; New York; Southampton, England; and Washington, D.C.

Freeborn & Peters has offices in Chicago; New York; Springfield, Illinois; and Tampa.
