Vernis & Bowling wins YLS Chili Cook-off

The Jacksonville Bar Association event raised more than $25,000 for The Laundry Project.


The Caddyshack team from the Vernis & Bowling law firm won the Best Overall prize and the North Florida Financial Championship Belt at the 13th annual Jacksonville Bar Association Young Lawyers Section Chili Cook-off on Feb. 25 at the Riverside Arts Market.

Warm, sunny weather Feb. 25 brought thousands of people to the 13th annual Jacksonville Bar Association Young Lawyers Section Chili Cook-off at the Riverside Arts Market.

Through sponsorships and entry fees, the event raised more than $25,000 for The Laundry Project, a local nonprofit that pays for services at laundromats for residents in low-income neighborhoods.

The prize for Best Overall chili and the North Florida Financial Championship Belt, selected by a panel of 4th Circuit and Duval County judges, was presented to the Vernis & Bowling law firm “Caddyshack” team.

Prizes were awarded in seven other categories:

• Cobb & Gonzalez, Crowd Favorite.

• Nichols & Pina, Best Fixins.

• Cobb & Gonzalez, Most Original chili.

• Gunster, Best Cornbread.

• Coker Law, Meatiest chili.

• Woolsey Morcom, Spiciest chili.

• Coleman Talley, Most Team Spirit.
