Air Van Inc. announced Feb. 19 the acquisition of G&C Cartage Co. Inc., a Jacksonville-based logistics provider.

Founded and headquartered in Jacksonville, Air Van is a third-party logistics firm.

Air Van said in a news release that the addition of G&C, a family-owned company formed in 1971, allows it to serve “a more expansive business population.”

Air Van was formed in 1957 by brothers Lex De Benton and B.D. Benton, who saw a need for pick-up and delivery services from domestic and international airlines, according to the company website.

The company relocated in 2016 from a 60,000-square-foot facility in the Jacksonville International Tradeport to a 110,000-square-foot building in Alta Lakes Commerce Center.

The Alta Lakes facility at 11070 Cabot Commerce Circle moved Air Van closer to Jacksonville’s port.  The Tradeport is near Jacksonville International Airport.

The acquisition of G&C includes its 35,000-square-foot facility at 6801 W. 12th St. in Jacksonville.

Terms of the deal were not announced.
