The Jacksonville University College of Law conducted its second commencement ceremony May 1, conferring 23 juris doctor degrees.
“This class represents not only academic achievement, but a deep commitment to service, leadership and community,” said Nick Allard, Randall C. Berg Jr. founding dean. “We are proud of all they have accomplished and confident in the contributions they will make to the profession.”
Graduates will begin their legal careers with many remaining in Jacksonville and others practicing in cities throughout Florida, Georgia, Michigan and Texas.
Collectively, graduates in the class of 2026 contributed more than 1,500 hours of pro bono service, reflecting the law school’s commitment to public service.
The keynote address was delivered by Jacksonville attorney Michael Orr, incoming president of The Florida Bar, who encouraged graduates to embrace the responsibilities of the profession and to lead with integrity and purpose.
The college also highlighted individual student achievement during the ceremony. Ashton Wood received the College of Law Award for Academic Excellence and Thomas Ross, who received an undergraduate degree from Jacksonville University, accepted the award for outstanding leadership.
Allard said the law school expects at least 40 new students for the next class and plans to surpass the 100-student mark in the class of 2029.
“We are building something strong and important for the city and beyond. Success is the only option because the building blocks are of the best quality - that is our students. They are smart, hard working, dedicated, and wonderful people,” he said.
