The Jacksonville-based Winn-Dixie Company LLC has been converting its stores to the unified banner.

In an agreement aimed at protecting $12 million in city incentives for The Winn-Dixie Company LLC to retain its headquarters in Jacksonville, the grocery company committed to keeping the Harveys Supermarket at 201 W. 48th St. in North Shore open through at least February 2029. With the commitment in place, Jacksonville City Council approved the incentives in May 2026.

The Brentwood area Harveys Supermarket, saved from closure by community demand and an agreement with the city, will convert into a Winn-Dixie.

The Winn-Dixie Company LLC, the parent company of both banners, said in a statement May 18 that the Brentwood Harveys Supermarket at 201 W. 48th St. "will transition to a Winn-Dixie as we continue to unite under one iconic banner."

"We’ve listened loudly to the community’s passion for this location and recognize the important role it plays to feed and enrich the Brentwood community," said Meredith Hurley, Winn-Dixie senior director of Communications and Community.

"Our team is actively working to restock and refresh the store as we invest in this location. The store remains open with a limited assortment and will return to a more complete, full-service shopping experience beginning Wednesday, May 20, with fresh offerings across produce, meat, deli, bakery, dairy, frozen foods and more," the statement said.

Current store hours are 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. "Additional details, including timing, any temporary impacts to operations and an official grand opening date, will be shared as plans progress," the statement said.

Winn-Dixie said the store will host hiring events from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 21 and May 28 "to recruit engaging, energetic associates for various full- and part-time positions."

Winn-Dixie said it encourages candidates to apply in advance at WinnDixie.com/careers.

Winn-Dixie said the move comes after the grand openings of five Winn-Dixie stores May 16 across Florida and South Georgia, comprising two in Jacksonville, two in Lakeland and one in Folkston, Georgia.

Jacksonville-based The Winn-Dixie Company LLC has been bringing its Harveys Supermarket stores under the namesake banner, and also decided to close some Harveys stores, with the Brentwood location at 201 W. 48th St. removed from that list.

The Winn-Dixie Company LLC announced March 16 that it would convert two Harveys Supermarkets in Jacksonville and one in southern Georgia to its banner as part of a strategy to bring its grocery stores together under one name.

In a March 16 news release, the company said the conversion locations include 5909 University Blvd. W. in South Jacksonville and 5250 Moncrief Road W. in Northwest Jacksonville. In Folkston, Georgia, Winn-Dixie plans to convert the store at 3606 S. Second St.

“The transition from Harveys Supermarket reflects The Winn-Dixie Company’s continued transformation and investment in the communities it serves, while advancing the company’s broader effort to unite stores under the iconic Winn-Dixie banner across Florida and southern Georgia,” Winn-Dixie said in a news release May 14.

Winn-Dixie said the stores will feature “an extensive selection and everyday savings.”

The conversions are part of a plan by Winn-Dixie to focus on its home state of Florida and the Northeast Florida region after selling its stores in Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi and much of Georgia.

The new owners registered The Winn-Dixie Company LLC with the state Division of Corporations on Feb. 5, 2026.

According to the March 16 news release, the Harveys conversions reflect Winn-Dixie’s strategy to create “a more unified grocery experience for customers across Florida and southern Georgia.”

“Following the transition, customers will continue to be served by their local store teams while gaining access to the quality, value and fresh offerings that define the Winn-Dixie experience, including fresh produce, quality meats, signature Own Brand products and everyday savings,” the release said.

Anthony Hucker, chairman and CEO of Winn-Dixie, said in the release that bringing stores together under the Winn-Dixie name “allows us to build on that shared legacy while continuing to invest in our stores, our associates and the quality, value and fresh offerings our customers count on.”

Jacksonville has two other Harveys Supermarkets at 49 Arlington Road S. in Arlington and the Brentwood store.

The Arlington store closed May 17.

Winn-Dixie reached an agreement with the city to keep the Brentwood area store open to avoid creating a food desert for customers in the area, which is north of Downtown.

After finalizing a deal to keep the Brentwood Harveys Supermarket open through at least February 2029, Jacksonville City Council approved up to $12 million in financial incentives for The Winn-Dixie Company LLC.

With a 16-2 vote May 12 on Ordinance 2026-0326, Council approved incentives for Winn-Dixie to keep its company headquarters in Jacksonville and increase its central workforce by 200 full-time employees. President Kevin Carrico and Council member Rory Diamond voted no on the incentive deal and member Terrance Freeman was absent.

Council granted a $5.5 million Recapture Enhanced Value Grant and a $6.5 million Headquarters Retention Grant for Winn-Dixie to stay in its offices at 5050 Edgewood Court in West Jacksonville.

Winn-Dixie agreed to come back to the Council Finance Committee 18 months before its lease on the 48th Street store ends in February 2029 to provide an update on efforts to stay in the area. Additionally, should Winn-Dixie fail to see out the lease, it would pay back the Headquarters Retention Grant approved by Council.

Additionally, should Winn-Dixie close the Brentwood store, it would have 18 months to open another store in the area.
