Citing future development and energy demand in Northwest Jacksonville, the JEA board approved May 19 a proposal to purchase 23.76 acres of undeveloped land and 42.17 acres of easements along Gold Star Family Parkway.

JEA will spend $3.9 million on the project, purchasing the land from EPG Jax LLC, a subsidiary of Tampa-based Eisenhower Property Group, a real estate and development company.

The seven-member JEA board voted 6-0, with Kawanza Suarez absent, to approve the purchase. The vote came without discussion. The board’s Capital Project Committee discussed the proposal May 6.

According to a staff presentation during that meeting, the property would support two electric substations in Northwest Jacksonville and an 11-mile transmission and distribution corridor.

The parcels are in northwest Duval County, west of Jacksonville International Airport.
