German discount grocer Aldi plans to open its second St. Augustine store May 21 in a former Winn-Dixie that closed in August 2025.
The store is at 181 Blackford Way in Shores Village.
Aldi’s first store in St. Augustine, at 1773 U.S. 1, also was a Winn-Dixie.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new store is planned for 8:45 a.m., followed by the store opening at 9 a.m. Store hours are 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily.
“At our new Saint Augustine ALDI store, customers will see why so many already choose ALDI for their weekly grocery shopping,” J.R. Perry, regional vice president for Aldi, said in a news release.

Aldi intends to operate 3,200 stores in the U.S. by the end of 2028, the release said. According to the company’s website, Aldi currently operates more than 2,000 stores in 36 states.
The company also is developing a distribution center in Baldwin. The city issued a permit May 5 to renovate the facility at a cost of $21.83 million, the second permit in a week that allowed the company to launch work toward a $35.1 million conversion for use in 2027.
The distribution center previously was operated by Winn-Dixie.
Jacksonville-based Southeastern Grocers sold 400 Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarkets in Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Louisiana and Mississippi to Aldi in March 2024.

In February 2025, a consortium of private investors led by Southeastern CEO Anthony Hucker acquired Southeastern Grocers from Aldi in a deal that included about 170 Winn-Dixie stores in those five states, along with the chain’s liquor store business.
SEG has renamed itself The Winn-Dixie Company LLC and has been selling stores outside the state, intending to concentrate its presence in Florida and South Georgia under the Winn-Dixie banner.
