The city of Jacksonville does not own warehouses, but as a steward of “America’s Logistics Center,” we see our role as a strategic facilitator and infrastructure investor.

We view the logistics sector as a key element for high-wage job creation and regional economic stability.

The city and its partners, including JAXUSA Partnership, JaxPort and the state, help position us as a critical link between global trade and domestic consumers.

We also collaborate with the private sector to develop modern warehousing facilities and distribution centers, focusing on innovation, sustainability and technology integration at sites across Jacksonville, including the city-owned Cecil Commerce Center.

This proactive approach, along with our business-friendly incentives and policies, ensures Jacksonville remains competitive and attractive for companies in logistics, e-commerce, manufacturing and retail.

The city’s “why” is rooted in its unique geography. It is the westernmost city on the East Coast, providing a logistical shortcut to 98 million consumers within a one-day truck drive.

To capitalize on this, the city and its partners have directed millions toward:

  • Deepwater port expansion: Deepening the shipping channel to 47 feet to accommodate massive “post-Panamax” vessels.
  • Intermodal integration: Supporting the intersection of three major interstates (I-95, I-10, I-75) and three Class I railroads (CSX, Norfolk Southern and Florida East Coast Railway).
  • Workforce development: Collaborating with institutions like Florida State College at Jacksonville and the University of North Florida to supply a skilled talent pipeline for the large pool of local workers already employed in these sectors.

Ultimately, Jacksonville views logistics as its competitive advantage.

By facilitating modern warehousing and distribution, the city secures its status as the “Gateway to Florida,” ensuring that as the state’s population booms, Jacksonville remains the indispensable hub that feeds its growth.
