• Straight-faced and even-toned, U.S. Rep. Ander Crenshaw’s recorded video introducing the keynote speaker at Thursday’s Jacksonville Bar Association lunch had lawyers and judges laughing out loud. Crenshaw introduced friend Charles Canady, chief justice of the Florida Supreme Court. Recorded at his desk and speaking extemporaneously, Crenshaw stated in the video that he was “startled” at Canaday’s judicial appointment. Upon learning of it, Crenshaw said he left his Washington, D.C., office to visit the chief justice of the Supreme Court, only to be greeted by “somebody named John Roberts.” Crenshaw said he conferred with Jacksonville lawyer Hank Coxe, who explained there was more than one supreme court. Crenshaw also said that he consults with Coxe on issues when he wants to know “what the other 3 percent of the American people are thinking.”
