• The Lanier Building at 10 N. Market St. is the oldest government building in the City and was the site of Duval County’s first courthouse in the 1840s. The building was destroyed by a fire during the Civil War. Its replacement was also destroyed, this time by the Great Fire of 1901. The walls from the building were salvaged, however, and used in a redesign of the building into an armory. It was remodeled in the 1940s and is now home to the Department of Public Safety.
