Bundy Baking Solutions, an Urbana, Ohio-based provider of industrial and commercial baking pans, coatings and other equipment, could be the city’s next expansion candidate in the targeted industrial market.

Bundy, through BBW LLC, owns vacant industrial land in West Jacksonville that it is considering for development of a 25,000-square-foot plant. It would move from a smaller Westside location, where its Pan Glo business leases space.

Engineer William E. Tully III submitted site plans to the city May 14 for the project, planned on 4.5 acres at 1321 Pickettville Road, at Commonwealth Avenue.

The property is west of the Interstate 295 West Beltway in one of the area’s historically active industrial areas.

The project site is about 9 miles west of 1341 Vega St., where Pan Glo leases a 6,000-square-foot building.

A mobility fee calculation certificate was signed April 3.

Contractor West Westmoreland, who also is the project’s agent, said Bundy Baking wanted to complete the project by March. A Bundy executive did not return calls for comment.

Westmoreland, of Westmoreland Construction LLC, said the project was in the design stage. Site plans show a 25,128-square-foot project, with 1,500 square feet of offices and 23,628 square feet of warehouse space.

Plans also show 18 parking spaces as well as a truck-maneuver area.

Bundy Baking makes industrial and commercial baking plans, non-stick coatings for baking pans, provides pan cleaning, straightening and coating services, and deals in mixers and other equipment.

The bundybakingsolutions.com site outlines the company as comprising American Pan, Chicago Metallic, DuraShield, Pan Glo, RTB and Shaffer. RTB is “intelligent budgeting” for searches for pre-owned equipment, pans and trade-in options.

Pan Glo plants provide pan cleaning, straightening and coating services to process baking pans with a proprietary wash system.

Westmoreland said Bundy takes baking pans from large bakeries nationwide, cleans them, applies a special coating and returns them.

Plans filed with the mobility-fee application show the Pickettville Road project would be developed in one phase in 2016 and create six full-time permanent jobs. Those plans detail despatch ovens, tank lines, a boiler room, storage and other areas, including a thermal oxidizer.

Despatch ovens are industrial ovens that provide thermal processing of materials in the manufacturing process.

Duval County property records show BBW LLC and BB Bethlehem LLC paid $275,000 for the land in January 2014.

Bundy says American Pan is the world’s leading manufacturer of custom bakery pans to meet each bakery’s needs.

At headquarters, there’s also the Bundy Baking Museum, described as the result of Russell T. Bundy’s 40-plus year passion to collect and preserve baking industry history. The museum hosts vintage and modern signage, vehicles, advertising and turn-of-the-century baking equipment.
