Elkins Construction LLC pulled a permit Friday for the $1.36 million renovation for Mercedes-Benz USA in Jacksonville International Tradeport.

The project, at 13470 International Parkway, will make way for the automaker’s engineering services division move from New Jersey. It encompasses 38,500 square feet of space.

The relocation means another 54 jobs for newly hired and relocated employees, boosting the division to 84 positions.

Mercedes-Benz, a division of Daimler AG, is adding the division to its Quality Evaluation Center in Jacksonville.

It was known as Project Grace through its incentives evaluation in the summer and was approved for almost $450,000 in city and state assistance.

The jobs will be added by year-end 2018 and pay an average of almost $66,100 a year, plus benefits.

The company said it would invest $2.1 million in information technology, equipment and other improvements.

Plans show offices, training areas, a breakroom and more functions in the space.
