Truist Bank intends to post its name at the former BB&T Tower in Downtown Jacksonville, the 18-story high-rise it anchors at 200 W. Forsyth St.
The city issued nine permits Feb. 18 for Truist signs at a cost of $36,500, confirming that the financial company will remain where its predecessor bank has operated since 2006.
Downtown Vision Inc.’s DowntownJacksonville.org site refers to it as Truist Tower, “Formerly BB&T Tower.”
American/Interstate Signcrafters Inc. of Boynton Beach is the contractor for the project, including the Truist name, logo and directional signs for parking, the entrance and the ATM.
The building, developed in 1975, is at Forsyth, Hogan, Bay and Julia streets. Jacksonville-based Ash Properties bought it and a parking garage for $24.47 million in July 2018.
SunTrust Banks Inc. and BB&T Corp. merged in 2019. They chose Truist as the name for the new company.
The Downtown tower had been labeled BB&T, while SunTrust anchored what is now VyStar Tower at 76 S. Laura St.
Atlanta-based SunTrust and Winston-Salem, North Carolina-based BB&T agreed to a $66 million merger in February 2019. It was completed that December.
As they announced the name, they also announced plans to locate their headquarters in a 47-story tower in Charlotte, North Carolina.
