Jacksonville-based Stellar Group Inc. announced that the majority of its workforce will work remotely full-time from home, starting in the fall.

The Jacksonville-based design, engineering, construction and mechanical services company said July 1 is its 35th anniversary.

“This move comes at a pivotal moment as we celebrate our company’s 35th anniversary and look ahead to a new decade of change and progress both in our industry and the world,” said Stellar President and COO Brian  Kappele in a news release.

“This was a careful, strategic decision made after serious consideration by our firm’s leadership and by listening and collaborating with stakeholders across the company,” he said.

The company plans to maintain its headquarters at 2900 Hartley Road, near San Jose Boulevard and Interstate 295 in Mandarin.

“Although the majority of our corporate employees will work from home, Stellar’s corporate office location will continue to operate as a resource for employees, partners and clients,”  Kappele said.

Stellar said it has more than 700 employees with the majority of its office employees already working from home.

At the corporate headquarters, the company has about 350 employees who would typically be in their offices pre-COVID. Now, the company averages 40-50 employees a day who use the physical office as a resource.

On-site crews and essential support staff continue working at job sites and other locations across the country.

The company said the move makes Stellar one of the first firms in the industry to make the shift on such a scale.
