—10 second rule. When you are getting ready to leave a building, pause and look to see what is on the other side of the door. When you walk out, pause again halfway to your car and look around as if you forgot something. Continue to walk to your car and access your remote so you can get right in and lock the car. Put whatever you are carrying on the passenger seat, start your car and lock it.
—Your purse should never be in the passenger seat. Ladies should put their purse on the floor behind the passenger seat.
—When you arrive at your destination, before you get out of your car, look around. As you get out and head toward the building, stop and look back towards your car.
—Victims are more easily chosen if they have no idea what is going on around them. Pay attention. By stopping and looking around, even if you don’t see anything, you give the impression that you did.
—If you see someone and they make you nervous kill them with kindness. As you pass them say something nice, like “nice shoes.” It lets them know you’ve seen them and that you are aware.
—When meeting a client somewhere else than the office for a showing, have them fill out the client information sheet and call it into the office. Call again when you arrive at the house and give a time frame as to when you will call again. If you don’t have someone to call, turn your phone off and pretend. It will let the customer think someone knows where you are, who you are with and when you will be expected back.
