If reading is the road to success, then the students at Green Cove Springs Junior High School will be on the right path.
Thanks to local homebuilder Rosewood Homes and numerous volunteers, students have a reading lab with 15 computers, classroom novels sets, books and audio equipment, large theater chairs, sofas and two independent study areas.
“We have taken an old portable trailer and turned it into an educational classroom where students can read, study and relax in a quiet, comfortable atmosphere,” said Janice Martin, Production Coordinating Manager at Rosewood Homes. “Creating this wonderful learning environment for the students is a great way for Rosewood Homes to be involved in our local community and help children at the same time.”
Rosewood Homes began with the goal of creating a comfortable learning environment to aid students in their reading habits. The homebuilder and numerous vendors and volunteers worked together to give the portable classroom an extreme makeover at no cost to the school.
The volunteers refurbished the entire building with a new roof and floor, exterior and interior paint, repairs, dry wall, furniture and décor. The Rosewood Homes Reading Lab is available to students and teachers who are involved in the school’s intensive reading program.
“I can’t even begin to thank all of our vendors, volunteers and staff for their tremendous donations and valuable time,” said Roger Day, president of Rosewood Homes. “Without the help of the local community and volunteers, this reading lab would not be what it is today. We hope that this classroom will become a hub of learning for students and teachers at Green Cove Springs for years to come.”
