Joel Lamp has been named interim director of athletics at Jacksonville University by JU President Kerry Romesburg.

Lamp has been with JU for seven years and currently serves as associate athletics director for external operations.

He will replace departing athletics director Alan Verlander after May 5. Mayor Alvin Brown appointed Verlander as the City’s Sports and Entertainment director.

A search for Verlander’s full-time replacement will be led by JU trustee John Harrison with the assistance of a search committee and search firm.

Lamp will be a candidate for the full-time position, according to a news release.
