• Fourth Judicial Circuit Judge Group 1 Judge Brian Davis was confirmed as the winner from Tuesday’s primary. Davis received 49,239, or 50.3 percent, of the 94,738 vote votes cast in the Tuesday race. Because Davis achieved the 50 percent plus one figure needed to win by less than 0.5 percent, a recount was ordered.

• Smith Hulsey & Busey shareholder Charmaine T.M. Chiu recently became board certified in health law by the Florida Bar. With the distinction, Chiu becomes one of only 121 board-certified health law attorneys in Florida. She was named a shareholder in 2006 and specializes in health care law, handling reimbursement and regulatory matters, Medicare and Medicaid fraud and abuse issues and health care transactions.

• In addition to Chiu, nine more area attorneys also received board certification in several areas. They are: Amanda Parker of Rogers Towers, constuction law; Philip Bavington of the State Attorney’s Office, criminal trial; Jason Gabriel, Dylan Reingold and John Germany, all with the City’s Office of General Counsel, city, county and local government law; Theresa Kenney of Duss Kenney, Safer, Hampton & Joos, real estate; Christopher Maloney of Foley & Lardner, construction law; Kristopher Robinson of Frazier & Frazier, wills trusts and estates; and Robert Bradley Jr. of Kopelousos & Bradley, city, county and local government law.

• Joe Frasier, Office of Public Defender director of information technology, recently was named the 2012 Florida Public Defender Association Holly Stutz Administrator of the Year. Frasier is a 22-year veteran in the Fourth Judicial Circuit and recently completed the office’s “file-less” transition as required by Oct. 2013 by Florida law. He also has expanded the office’s jail video system in Clay and Duval counties.
