The Jacksonville Women Lawyers Association and volunteers from the local legal community and sports teams raised money Thursday night for Jacksonville Area Legal Aid with the first “Carpe Circa — Seize the Date!” bachelor/bachelorette auction at The River Club Downtown.

Auction participants were charged with developing a date package for bid and 20 people strolled down the catwalk to raise money for JALA.

Dates included game-day experiences at Jacksonville sporting events, including Jacksonville Jaguars, Sharks and Giants games; outdoor experiences such as skeet shooting, skydiving, kayaking and horseback riding; a performance of the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra; and a visit to The Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens.

The live and silent auctions grossed $17,605.

“It was a wonderful event. The JWLA ladies worked very hard on an extremely creative and fun event,” said Christa Figgins of JALA. “It brought out a nice cross section of the legal community in support of Legal Aid.”

The list of bachelors included two athletes from the Jacksonville Sharks, an Arena Football League team, and the Jacksonville Giants, of the American Basketball Association.

Attorneys Jonathan Zahler and Lindsay Tygart brought the top bids of the auction at $750 each.

The silent auction was stocked with a weekend at Amelia Island, a golf foursome at the Jacksonville Golf & Country Club, autographed sports memorabilia, wine tastings, jewelry, artwork, sessions with a personal trainer and sailing lessons.

The top silent auction offering was a painting by artist and attorney Susannah Collins, which topped out at $500.
