Owners of Jacksonville Chrysler Jeep Dodge bought the former Toys “R” Us in the Regency area and intend to convert it into a car dealership, according to public records.

The City approved a building permit Tuesday for contractor MH Williams Construction Group Inc. to remodel and convert the store into a dealership at a project cost of $2.79 million. The site is fenced as a “hard-hat” area.

TT of Jacksonville Inc. owns the Jacksonville Chrysler Jeep Dodge at 11101 Nurseryfields Drive.

TT of Duval Inc., with the same corporate address in West Palm Beach, bought the 5.5-acre Toys “R” Us property at 9600 Atlantic Blvd. in November for $2.25 million, according to Duval County property records. It bought the property from Toys “R” Us Delaware Inc. The building is 48,216 square feet, records show.

Terry Taylor is the president of the groups, which have the same officers.

TT of Jacksonville bought the Nurseryfields Drive property, along Florida 9A near Baymeadows Road, in February 2003 for about $4.2 million. The dealership property was valued at $10.7 million in 2011, according to property records.

A dealership spokesman did not return calls Wednesday afternoon.

The Toys “R” Us was built in 1987 and closed in 2008 when a larger Toys “R” Us was opened in the St. Johns Town Center.

MH Williams is based in Melbourne.

The Atlantic Boulevard site is next to Mike Davidson Ford at Regency.
