A record voter turnout resulted in the election of two new members and two incumbents to The Jacksonville Bar Association Young Lawyers Section Board of Governors at the YLS annual meeting Thursday at The Carling.

Shea Moser of Moseley Prichard and Beau Baker of Holland & Knight became the newest members of the YLS board while Brad Blair of Merrill Lynch and Renee Maxey of Holland & Knight retained their seats.

YLS past President Elizabeth Howard and board member Fraz Ahmed left the YLS board after being elected to The JBA Board of Governors.

New YLS President Michael Orr pledged to continue award-winning programing like the “Noon in June” event and “Afternoon at the Courthouse.”

He plans to ask other professional organizations to include them or co-host events and he also wants to bring back the annual YLS golf tournament.

The latest “Noon in June” took place Thursday morning and gave summer law clerks and interns a chance to tour the Downtown legal community and hear local legal leaders.

Speakers included Duval County Judge Gary Flower, The JBA President Michael Freed, State Attorney Angela Corey, Public Defender Matt Shirk and City Council member Robin Lumb.

The YLS is composed of area young lawyers who are 35 years old or younger or who have been practicing less than five years.
