Online job vacancies rose almost 5 percent in May from the year before, but fell 2 percent over the month.
The numbers come from WorkSource, the First Coast Workforce Development Inc. office that covers Baker, Clay, Duval, Nassau, Putnam and St. Johns counties.
The number of online advertised job vacancies in May was up by 931 jobs from May 2011 to 20,369 positions, a 4.8 percent increase. Over the month, vacancies fell by 413 positions, a drop of 2.1 percent.
Major occupational groups with the most online ads in May were sales and related occupations, office and administration support occupations and health care practitioners and technical occupations.
Since the official end of the recession in June 2009, online job demand in the WorkSource region has increased by 8,348 positions, state numbers show.
Labor demand, as measured by online advertised vacancies, bottomed out in January 2009. Since then, the region has seen an increase of 11,653 openings, reports WorkSource.
The monthly report comes from data collected by The Conference Board, a New York-based nonprofit source of economic information.
The Florida Department of Economic Opportunity makes the information available to the 24 Workforce regions in Florida.
