• Deon Downey is the new party operations director for the Republican Party of Duval County at its Beach Boulevard headquarters. Downey will be responsible for office operations. She will organize the office every day, schedule volunteers, handle phone calls and coordinate daily activities.

• Construction will start soon on a 10-bed hospice inpatient unit on the fourth floor of St. Vincent’s Medical Center Riverside. The unit will be staffed and operated by Community Hospice of Northeast Florida and is scheduled to open early next year.
• The Mayor’s Economic Development Compliance Task Force will meet at 3 p.m. Monday on the fourth floor at City Hall in the mayor’s large conference room.
• The City Council Courthouse Oversight Special Committee will met at 4 p.m. Monday in the Council chambers at City Hall.
• Financial columnist Michelle Singletary is scheduled at “Florida Saves in Jacksonville: Smartinvesting@yourlibrary,” a free seminar to help residents understand common financial issues. Her appearance is noon-1:30 p.m. March 24 in the Main Library Hicks Auditorium. The program is free and open to the public.
