Florida Theatre President Numa Saisselin has been learning the names, faces and places of Jacksonville since being hired in September to run the day-to-day operations of Downtown’s historic venue.
On Monday, about 75 people, including many board of directors members and theatre supporters, turned out to introduce themselves during a welcoming event at the theatre.
Saisselin, the second president of the theatre since it reopened in 1983 after renovations, said he wanted to thank supporters for the efforts in preserving the iconic building and also tell them — and the general public — that one of his first goals is to have more events at the venue.
He said that after an analysis, the theatre was found to be “smack in the middle” of similar venues in terms of average number of performances and events, and he wants to change that.
That will include what he hopes to be a spring gala — featuring a headlining performer, party and dinner — early next year, but he said Monday he didn’t want to reveal too much at this time.
