Newk's Eatery planned at River City Marketplace

Plans show a second area Newk's Eatery, this one in North Jacksonville.

The first Jacksonville Newk's restaurant opened in Southside at 9047-1 Southside Blvd. The second, a 207-seat location, is shown in the Parkway Shops at River City Marketplace.

Plans filed with the City show interior build-out in 4,234 square feet of space at 14964 Max Leggett Parkway, Unit 404. It is near the Dick's Sporting Goods, Marshall's and Ulta Beauty stores.

Plans show indoor seating for 151 patrons and outdoor seating for 56.

Dakenna Development Inc. is shown as the contractor for the $450,000 interior build-out for the restaurant.

The Newks.com site describes the Jackson, Miss.-based restaurant chain as "an express casual dining experience in a refreshing and stylish atmosphere with an emphasis on freshness and flavor."

It says its menu includes fresh tossed salads, oven-baked sandwiches, California-style pizzas, made-from-scratch soups and homemade cakes from Newk's open kitchen.

The site lists more than 50 restaurants in 12 states.

It says the founders of McAlister's Deli — Don Newcomb, Debra Bryson and Chris Newcomb — comprise the team behind Newk's Franchise Co. LLC.

"After providing a solid foundation and establishing strong upward growth for McAlister's Deli, they sold the successful chain to focus on creating the future of fast casual dining. The Newk's Express Café concept has been developed and refined to meet the needs of consumers and franchise operators alike," the site says.

Burger King signs OK'd

Four wall signs were approved for Burger King at 10142 Philips Highway. The signs are for Burger King, Home of the Whopper and Have It Your Way. Townsend Signs Inc. is the contractor for the $4,800 project.
