Select Portfolio Servicing Inc., a mortgage-loan servicing company, is one of at least three companies planning a Jacksonville job fair this week.

Select Portfolio Servicing is advertising for call-center employees and plans a job fair from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Wednesday at the Sheraton Jacksonville Hotel at 10605 Deerwood Park Blvd.

Select Portfolio Servicing wants to fill jobs in collections, customer service, retentions, sales, negotiations, finance and mortgages, according to ads published Saturday and Sunday in The Florida Times-Union and to listings on its spservicing.com website.

The website says Select Portfolio Servicing, in business since 1989, specializes in servicing single-family residential mortgage loans with operations in Salt Lake City and Jacksonville.

State records show the company, based in Salt Lake City, started its Florida operations in 1997 as Fairbanks Capital Corp. It changed its name in 2004 to Select Portfolio Servicing Inc.

In 2004, it employed more than 400 people in Jacksonville, according to The Florida Times-Union.

It operates at Capital Plaza North at 10401 Deerwood Park Blvd., Building 2.

The City has been reviewing a building-permit application for the company to build-out another 18,141 square feet of space at the address at a project cost of almost $81,000.

The application indicates an occupant load of 182 people. Plans show an open office area with workstations, training rooms, a coaching room, private offices and a break area.

Dav-Lin Interior Contractors Inc. is shown as the contractor.

The expansion increases the company's space to about 65,000 square feet.

Select Portfolio Servicing Human Resources Professional Peggy Jensen said the company does not disclose information about the number of jobs it has or intends to fill.

The website shows 10 categories of full-time employment opportunities in Jacksonville, including collectors, customer service representative, loan servicing representatives, managers and supervisors of early-stage and late-stage collections and supervisors of customer service.

The loan-servicing representative job description says Select Portfolio Servicing Inc. handles a portfolio of more than 300,000 loans nationwide.

BAE Systems to hire more than 100 people

BAE Systems plans a job fair from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Thursday at its Southeast Shipyard at 8500 Heckscher Drive.

An ad Sunday in the Times-Union says more than 100 "job opportunities" are available and that BAE Systems is hiring welders, ship fitters and pipe welders/fitters.

"With the current boom in commercial shipbuilding, BAE Systems in Jacksonville has signed contracts to build four new vessels and we are currently looking to expand our team of world-class shipbuilders," says the ad.

A job listing online shows openings for BAE Systems in Jacksonville and in Mayport for functions that include financial analyst, welder, machinist, pipefitter, ship fitter, sheet-metal mechanic, environmental technician and estimator.

Coggin Toyota approved for Avenues dealership

The City approved a building permit for Coggin Toyota at the Avenues, a $5.2 million construction project at 11340 Philips Highway.

R.L. Haines Construction LLC is the contractor for the dealership, an almost 72,000-square-foot project at Philips Highway and Greenland Road, not far from the existing Coggin Toyota dealership at 10564 Philips Highway.

The Daily Record first reported plans for the dealership in October. Asbury Automotive Group of Duluth, Ga., is the dealership owner.

Development plans show a 10.3-acre site. The dealership comprises a first floor of almost 68,000 square feet with a small mezzanine floor for storage. A second building will consist of a car wash for dealership use.

The property is shown as vacant and previously was developed as a light-industrial manufacturing facility that was demolished.

Asbury Automotive Group applied for the building permit in December.
