The latest addition to Downtown art was completed Tuesday at Chamblin's Uptown bookstore and café at 215 Laura St.. Riverside artist Shaun Thurston was commissioned to paint a mural on the façade of the building. The mural is part of Downtown Vision Inc.'s Laura Street Façade Grant Program, a matching grant program established in 2011 to provide economic incentive for property and business owners to improve building facades and storefronts. Downtown Vision and the Cultural Council of Greater Jacksonville selected Thurston, also known for his murals in Five Points, from a pool of local artists. Installation began over the week on the permanent mural that features a fusion of nature and the urban environment.
