Signs are up on Walmart Neighborhood Markets, which are opening soon, including this one in Arlington at 8011 Merrill Road in the Merrill Station shopping center. Walmart announced in April it was hiring 300 employees for its four area Walmart Neighborhood Markets, comprising two in Jacksonville, one in Fruit Cove and one in Middleburg. The stores typically are 42,000 square feet in size, a quarter of the size of the average 185,000-square-foot Walmart Supercenter, according to Wal-Mart Stores Inc. The stores in Arlington and Mandarin, at 10550 Old St. Augustine Road in the Crossroads at Mandarin center, are former Food Lion stores.
