It’s time to register your law clerks, legal interns and summer associates for this year’s “Noon in June.”

This year’s event will be June 13 and is geared toward rising second- and third-year law students and young attorneys and provides an afternoon of introductions to local government and the practice of law in Jacksonville.

It is presented by The Young Lawyers Section of The Jacksonville Bar Association.

Participants will hear from many highly regarded Jacksonvillians and taken on a tour of the federal courthouse, City Hall and Jacksonville Area Legal Aid’s headquarters.

This year’s title sponsor is Bailey Publishing and without its ongoing, tremendous support this event would not be possible.

This year’s Noon in June will begin at a new location, the Jacksonville Main Library, and will kick off with lunch from Jersey Mike’s Subs.

During lunch, participants will be greeted by the JBA president, YLS president and Duval County Judge Gary Flower, who will discuss professionalism and the practice of law in Duval County, among other topics.

By mid-afternoon, participants will leave the library and be taken on a walking tour of Downtown.

Participants will embark on a tour of the federal courthouse that will range from the law library and the clerk’s office to technologically advanced capabilities of its courtrooms and even the holding cells where criminal defendants are kept until it is time for their court appearance.

The walking tour will continue to City Hall, where participants can expect to hear from State Attorney Angela Corey, and Public Defender Matt Shirk, as well as a City Council member.

The tour finishes at the offices of Jacksonville Area Legal Aid, where participants can expect to hear from advocates discussing the areas of need as well as some of this year’s most rewarding moments as an advocate helping those in need.

Noon in June will conclude with participants attending the YLS annual meeting.

In addition to serving as this year’s title sponsor, Bailey Publishing is providing door prizes in the form of iPads, which will be won by some very lucky attendees.

Participants also will have an opportunity to receive a free subscription to the Daily Record for their final year of law school.

For more information about Noon in June or for information regarding registration, please contact YLS board of governors member Christian George at (904) 798-3700 or [email protected].

In honor of outgoing YLS President Michael Orr and his mandate to “Go Big!” this year’s annual meeting also will be at a new location, the Museum of Contemporary Art.

The meeting is a time to celebrate the year’s accomplishments and elect and install new board of governors members and new YLS officers.

The event provides members one last opportunity to vote for board of governors nominees for the 2013-14 year.

New board members and officers will be sworn in and awards will be given to this year’s most outstanding members.

The annual meeting begins at 5 p.m. and will feature delectable creations from Café Nola along with choice beverages.

Election results are scheduled to be announced at about 7 p.m., with the officers and newly elected board members being sworn in by Circuit Judge Virginia Norton immediately after.

All YLS members are encouraged to attend this exciting end-of-the-year event.
