Baldinos opens Friday

Baldinos Giant Jersey Subs plans to open its first Jacksonville restaurant Friday at 5921-1 University Blvd. W. It also is the first Baldinos in the state.

Baldinos scheduled a grand-opening ceremony for 11 a.m. and a ribbon-cutting event about 11:30 a.m. The restaurant should open to the public no later than 3 p.m.

As reported, the building-permit application showed Willis Contractors LLC as the contractor for the $40,000 project to renovate 2,250 square feet of space for Baldinos.

Baldinos founder Bill Baer in Marietta, Ga., said in January the company has an area development agreement with a group that is planning to open two restaurants this year in the Jacksonville market.

Baer said the typical Baldinos Giant Jersey Subs shop is 2,000-3,000 square feet in size and staffs 12-20 full- and part-time employees.

The baldinos.us website says Baldinos bakes its rolls daily and all meats are sliced fresh in view of the customer.

A menu on the website includes cold and hot subs as well as grilled and toasted subs. Hot subs include steak, chicken, meatballs, sausage Italiano and vegetarian stir-fry. The menu also offers spaghetti, salads, sides and sweets.
