Two of Downtown’s most significant and high-profile projects landed approvals Friday — the ground-up Shoppes on Riverside in the Brooklyn area and the remodeling of the historically significant Jessie Ball duPont Center in the former Haydon Burns Public Library in the Northbank core.
The city’s Building Inspection Division approved three permits for the $1.8 million Shoppes on Riverside at 150 Riverside Ave. The permits comprise buildings totaling 30,400 square feet of retail space of the eventual almost 50,000-square-foot project.
The interior tenant work will be approved separately, including for The Fresh Market and the Corner Bakery Café, the two tenants announced to date.
The center is a joint venture of Regency Centers Corp. and Fuqua Development.
The three buildings approved Friday comprise the 20,400-square-foot building that appears to be The Fresh Market, the 5,800-square-foot building called “Shell A-1” and the 4,200-square-foot “Shell A-2.” The Corner Bakery likely is one of those.
The city also approved the $529,147 interior demolition for the Jessie Ball duPont Center at 122 N. Ocean St. by Danis Construction LLC. Danis will start interior work to prepare the four-story, 128,375-square-foot former library for renovations into the Jessie Ball duPont Fund headquarters and a home for nonprofits.
The 49-year-old concrete building was purchased by the Jessie Ball duPont Fund, which expects a $21 million redevelopment cost. Completion is expected in mid-2015.
