The Vestcor Cos. has completed the Caroline Oaks Apartments in North Jacksonville.

The 82-unit affordable senior housing community is at 5175 N. Main St. It provides homes for people 55 and older who make less than $30,000 a year.

The $11 million community was financed through tax-exempt bonds issued through the Jacksonville Housing Finance Authority, along with loans through the authority and Florida Housing Finance Corp. It was completed in eight months and is 100 percent leased.

Jaguars hosting ‘State of the Franchise’ next week 

The Jacksonville Jaguars will host its annual State of the Franchise report at 11 a.m. Jan. 29 at EverBank Field.

Jaguars owner Shad Khan and President Mark Lamping will provide updates on the team, both on and off the field.

On the field, the team finished 5-11 and is preparing for a top 5 pick in the NFL draft.

Off the field, the team and city recently approved $90 million in stadium upgrades with the design process starting at the beginning of the year.

The State of the Franchise is not open to the public, however, the presentation will be broadcast live on jaguars.com.

FSCJ to host talk about Stalking Awareness Month

Florida State College at Jacksonville will host a panel discussion about stalking awareness from 9:30-11 a.m. Thursday at its Kent Campus, 3939 Roosevelt Blvd.

January is National Stalking Awareness Month.

The open forum will feature:

• Linda Wilson, a psychotherapist, instructor and mental health presenter from FSCJ’s Student Assistance Program

• Jennifer Rodriguez, Quigley House director of sexual assault services

• Rosin Kanupp, Hubbard House lead court victim advocate

• Robin Graber, Women’s Center of Jacksonville Rape Recovery Team assistant director and volunteer coordinator

They’ll talk about the court system and stalking statistics from Clay and Duval counties.

Students also can learn about the assistance program.

Baptist Beaches receives Women’s Choice Award

Baptist Medical Center Beaches has received a 2016 Women’s Choice Award as one of “America’s Best Hospitals for Obstetrics.”

The designation identifies the country’s best health-care institutions based on criteria that consider female patient satisfaction, clinical excellence and what women say they want from a hospital, according to a news release.

More than 400 winners across the U.S. were named.

11,000 Jacksonville children to get free after-school meals and snacks

The Jacksonville Children’s Commission, U.S. Department of Agriculture and Florida Department of Health have partnered to provide about 11,000 children with free snacks and meals during after-school hours at 61 locations across the city.

The meals are provided through the Child Care Food Program funded by the USDA.

To qualify as a site, 50 percent or more of the children attending the school must be on the free or reduced lunch program.

The after-school program also must include academic and enrichment components.

Wallace to update CREW on Downtown

In January, the Downtown group of CREW Jacksonville learned about “The Plan and Pathway to a Vibrant Downtown.”

For February, the group of commercial real estate women will learn about how to progress in that plan.

Aundra Wallace, Downtown Investment Authority CEO, is the keynote speaker for the 11:15 a.m. Feb. 2 event. Members cost $35, non-members and walk-ups $55.

Junior Achievement to honor Nat Glover

Edward Waters College President Nat Glover will receive the 2016 Thompson S. Baker Solid as a Rock award from Junior Achievement of North Florida.

The event will be March 8 at the University of North Florida’s Herbert University Center.

It will be part of the 18th annual Hall of Fame event for the nonprofit dedicated to educating students about workforce readiness, entrepreneurship and financial literacy.

Armada preseason underway

Jacksonville Armada FC began its preseason Tuesday as it heads toward three friendlies with MLS clubs starting in February.

The team has eight new players and a new head coach, Tony Meola, former U.S. Men’s National team goalkeeper and a U.S. Soccer National Hall of Fame member.

The preseason matches will be against the Philadelphia Union on Feb. 6, Orlando City SC on Feb. 13 and the New York Red Bulls on Feb. 27. Each will be at Community First Park at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville.

The team also will play the University of North Florida on Feb. 24 and Jacksonville University on March 15 in away matches.

The regular season starts April 10.

Ritz Chamber Players to honor Martin Luther King Jr.

The Ritz Chamber Players will be back on stage at 7 p.m. Jan. 28 as part of “The Ritz Chamber Players’ Concert 2: In Remembrance of the Dream.”

The performance will honor the life and work of Martin Luther King Jr. and be at Florida State College at Jacksonville’s Wilson Center for the Arts, 11901 Beach Blvd.

The free concert is open to the public.

The Ritz Chamber Players was founded by Jacksonville native Terrance Patterson and has performed in more than 40 countries.

JTA schedules charrettes on Blanding Boulevard and Park Street

The Jacksonville Transportation Authority will have a series of community charrettes Jan. 26-28 at Riverside Baptist Church, 2650 Park St.

The sessions will focus on Blanding Boulevard and Park Street.

Topics will include safety and mobility improvements like sidewalks, bike paths and lighting — all of which need community input.

The series begins at 5 p.m. Jan. 26 with an open house, followed by community feedback and planning sessions from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Jan. 27-28. A wrap-up presentation is planned at 5 p.m. Jan. 28.

Black Knight CEO receives inaugural Vanguard Award

Black Knight Financial Services CEO Tom Sanzone received the 2015 HW Vanguard Award from HousingWire magazine in its inaugural competition.

The award recognizes company leaders who contribute to the growth of the housing economy and are instrumental in advancing the mortgage finance industry.

Jacksonville-based Black Knight provides integrated technology, data and analytics to the mortgage industry. Clients include the 25 largest financial institutions in the U.S.

More than 50 percent of all mortgage companies in the U.S. use Black Knight’s technology, according to a news release.
