J.C. Penney to reopen at The Avenues on May 13

The retailer said its Orange Park and Regency Square stores remain closed until further notice.

J.C Penney Co. Inc. announced it will reopen its department store at The Avenues mall May 13 after temporarily closing because of COVID-19.

The store is at 10308 Southside Blvd.

Reduced store hours are noon-7 p.m. Monday-Saturday and 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday.

A spokeswoman said the J.C. Penney stores in the Orange Park Mall and Regency Square Mall remain closed until further notice.

Jim DePaul, executive vice president of stores, said the retailer’s top priority is the health and safety of its staff, customers and the community.

“We want to ensure everyone is safe and feels comfortable as we continue to provide an engaging shopping experience,” he said in a news release.

He said the retailer is phasing the opening of its nationwide stores based on guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The stores will offer:

• Contact-free curbside pickup

• Nightly cleaning of the store

• Social distancing procedures in place, with reminders throughout the store

• Contactless checkout

• Masks provided to each associate

• An extended return policy and a longer time window to use customer rewards

• Plexiglas shields at the register

• Associate training on safety practices
