Nearly two years after being shut by a fire, Bono’s Pit Bar-B-Q at Town Center will reopen Dec. 13.

The new 3,000-square-foot restaurant sits on 1.03 acres at 10065 Skinner Lake Drive near Wawa and Black Creek Outfitters.

The previous store, with 3,900 square feet of interior space, was damaged by fire in March 2020 and then demolished. No one was hurt in the blaze.

“The Gate Parkway Bono’s will reopen to the public on Monday, December 13th, just in time for the holiday season and ushering in 2022. Our gratitude for all those involved with helping us get to this point is immeasurable,” the company said Dec. 10 on social media.

Josh Martino, president of Bono’s owner Home Team Restaurant Group, said in a news release that the past two years have been “a whirlwind” and that the process to rebuild was “long and tough.”

“We wanted our mess to become our message and never lost sight of what we were fighting for. We work hard every day for our dedicated staff, our family and the Jacksonville Community,” he said.

“We are thrilled with the new restaurant and the changes we’ve made based on the things we have learned over the last two years. The company extends gratitude to a number of people for their help, without which none of this would be possible.”

The restaurant features a drive-thru and a takeout window. In addition to interior seating, there is a 1,000-square-foot front porch for dining.

Hours posted on the Bono’s website are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.

Martino told the Daily Record in March 2020 that the location was one of the chain’s best-performing locations.

“We know that store, we know that location, we knew that was something we were going to rebuild no matter what,” Martino said.
