Jacksonville University is expanding its curriculum with a doctorate program in health care leadership.

The Doctor of Business Administration in health care leadership is a partnership between the university’s Davis College of Business and Brooks Rehabilitation College of Healthcare Sciences.

The program is designed to prepare business leaders to approach problems in new ways with high-level training in real-world research and analysis within the health care industry.

“The Davis College of Business is thrilled to collaborate with the Brooks Rehabilitation College of Healthcare Sciences to bring students a distinguished and highly dynamic degree that will successfully launch them into today’s marketplace,” Barbara Ritter, dean of the Davis College of Business, said in a news release.

Growth in the health care field has led to an increased need for medical personnel and qualified administrators, the release states.

“The synergy between our Brooks Rehabilitation College of Healthcare Sciences and our Davis College of Business will produce graduates in the program who are innovative, ethical thought leaders committed to healthcare improvement in their communities and at the global level,” said Teri Chenot, department chair for the university’s health care quality and safety programs.

JU said the program is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. Doctorate-level faculty are qualified academic scholars who continually publish academic research.

The Davis College of Business also is an affiliate member of the Association of University Programs in Health Administration, a global network of colleges, universities, faculty and organizations dedicated to the improvement of health and health care delivery through excellence in health care management and policy education.

Candidates with a master’s degree can choose from two career tracks: academic, designed for transition to higher education; and professional, designed to help candidates solve real-world problems in their current organizations.

Students can start in the fall or the spring and have the option of choosing a traditional dissertation, a major consulting project or a series of research papers.

Classes are designed for working professionals and are offered once a month on Friday and Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at JU’s Arlington campus. Students may choose to attend class in person or online.
