Former Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull is scheduled to speak Sept. 14 when the University of North Florida and the World Affairs Council of Jacksonville begin the 2022-23 Distinguished Voices Lecture Series.

The program begins at 7 p.m. at the Lazzara Performance Hall in the UNF Fine Arts Center.

Turnbull’s topic is “China: The Asia-Pacific Struggle for Control.”

While serving nearly three years as the 29th prime minister of Australia, Turnbull faced issues including same-sex marriage, environmental conservation and energy crises, global trade, cybersecurity and the refugee crisis.

Before he was elected to public office, Turnbull was an entrepreneur and businessman who worked his way to the top of a major global investment banking firm and founded several businesses in Australia and abroad.

Distinguished Voices lectures are free and open to the public. Complimentary e-tickets are required and available at unf.edu/foundation/lectures.

For those with a disability that require an accommodation, contact Lauren Giliberto at [email protected] or 904-620-4334 at least five days before the event.

Next in the series, documentary directors and producers Lynn Novick and Ken Burns are scheduled to speak about “The U.S. and the Holocaust: Lessons for Today’s Challenges” at 7 p.m. Oct. 25 at Herbert University Center.  E-tickets will be available Oct. 3.

The series is supported by the UNF Foundation and co-hosted by the World Affairs Council of Jacksonville’s Global Issues Evenings.
