Control Southern plans manufacturing plant in North Jacksonville

The machinery and value maker would move from leased space to the $8 million building.

Control Southern intends to build a manufacturing plant, offices and storage space in North Jacksonville at a cost of at least $8 million.

The city is reviewing a permit for Jacksonville-based Ladson Construction Co. to build the 39,800-square-foot building at 11865 Industry Drive, south of Interstate 295 and west of North Main Street.

Suwanee, Georgia-based Control Southern has been leasing space in a 20,220-square-foot building developed in 1962 at 4133 N. Canal St. in Northwest Jacksonville at West 33rd Street.

Industry Drive Properties LLC, led by Control Southern President Douglas Turner, paid $1.66 million Feb. 18, 2021, for the 6-acre Industry Drive site.

Control Southern makes automated machinery, instrumentation and customized valves to industries that include pulp and paper, power, chemical, oil and gas, food and beverage, life sciences, natural gas, original equipment manufacturing, and metals and mining. 

The private company was formed in 1956.
