Jacksonville University’s new STEAM center took a step forward when the city issued a building permit June 29 for the science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics teaching facility.
Stellar Group Inc. is the contractor for the $1.06 million build-out of 14,500 square feet on the first floor of the JU Lazzara Building at 2800 University Blvd. N. in Arlington.
The center is designed to facilitate undergraduate and graduate engineering research projects as well as a curriculum including robotics, process control, artificial intelligence, thermodynamics, power systems and the theory of machines.
An article posted on The Wave, JU’s online news hub, says the center will be equipped with traditional and novel manufacturing processes as well as the latest classroom technologies, dedicated maker space and active learning space.
Floor plans submitted with the permit application show classrooms and labs for animatronics, cybersecurity, cyberforensics, robotics and drones.
Studios for design, graphics, illustration and film production also are shown.
