Jacksonville University is building-out a space for its science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics curriculum.
The STEAM Center comprises 14,500 square feet in the Lazzara Health Sciences Center on the Arlington campus at 2800 University Blvd. N.
A building permit application submitted to the city indicates PQH Group is the designer and Stellar is the contractor for the $2 million project.
Both are based in Jacksonville.
Floor plans submitted with the application show classrooms and labs for animatronics, cybersecurity, cyberforensics, robotics and drones. Studios for design, graphics, illustration and film production also are shown.
According to an article posted on The Wave, JU’s online news hub, the center will be equipped with traditional and novel manufacturing processes, as well as the latest classroom technologies, dedicated maker space and active learning space.
The facility will include lab-based technology for undergraduate and graduate research projects in engineering, robotics, process control, artificial intelligence, thermodynamics, power systems and the theory of machines.
