About nine months after announcing that Sawgrass Country Club would undergo $55 million in capital improvements, including a golf course renovation, the club has filed an application for commercial plan review.
According to the application filed Aug. 4 with St. Johns County, the project comprises modifications that include improvements to all holes, the practice area and range, plus a future 3,750-square-foot performance center. Other facets of the renovation include golf cart bridges, revised cart paths, added golf cart parking, stormwater management facility modifications and utility improvements for the performance center.
The application says 2 acres of the 265-acre property are being engineered.
Civil engineering firm BGE Inc. filed the application for review. No site plans or renderings are included with the application.
In an October news release, Sawgrass Country Club said its membership had approved capital improvements that included expansion of the fitness center, an updated Beach Club Pavilion and dining area, a refreshed Tennis Pavilion, 13 new tennis courts and a 27-hole golf course renovation led by architects Dana Fry and Jason Straka.
The private club, founded in 1974, is at 10034 Golf Club Drive in Ponte Vedra Beach.
In its October announcement, the club said it expected construction to begin in November.
The Tournament Players Championship was played at the club from 1977 to 1981. The following year, the tournament moved across Florida A1A to its permanent home at the TPC Sawgrass course.
