Florida Credit Union, a Gainesville-based financial institution, is planning a location in Middleburg.

The proposed site is at northeast Branan Field Road and Irvin Court off Blanding Boulevard, and would be the credit union’s first Northeast Florida branch.

Clay County Property Appraiser records show the credit union has owned the vacant parcel where the branch is proposed since 2013.

A development plan permit application lists CHW Professional Consultants, a division of Hollywood, Florida-based NV5, as the civil engineer for the 5,600-square-foot building, which is planned to have three drive-thru lanes.

According to flcu.org, Florida Credit Union was chartered in 1954 as the Alachua County Teachers’ Credit Union, serving educators in the Alachua County School System. It expanded membership to additional school systems and educational groups following its first annual meeting in 1955.

Today, eligibility extends to residents of the 48 north and central Florida counties it serves, including Baker, Clay, Duval, Nassau and St. Johns.

Florida Credit Union has 13 branches across Gainesville, DeLand, Lake City, Lecanto, Ocala and Wildwood, with plans for a second Lecanto branch and a first branch in Lady Lake.

The credit union ended 2025 with about $2.6 billion in assets, according to its annual report.

Clay County’s Development Review Committee is scheduled to discuss the Florida Credit Union project June 25.
