An undeveloped oceanfront property in Ponte Vedra Beach sold on June 18, hours before it was scheduled to be auctioned.
An unnamed buyer and the owners, David and Helen Tucker, came to a sale agreement on the porperty at 1331 Ponte Vedra Blvd. before the June 19 auction.
Miami-based Platinum Luxury Auctions had planned to auction the property with a reserve price of $5.4 million.
Trayor Lesnock, founder of the auction house, said in a text that he was contractually prohibited to release the buyer’s name or the sales price until after the closing.
Lesnock said such preauction sales happen about 10% to 12% of the time. The two other registered prospective bidders in the auction were refunded their $100,000 deposits, he said.
“Such a pre-sale is an expected, possible part of the process, and is in fact in our Luxury Auction Agreement,” Lesnock wrote.
The Tuckers purchased the 1.22-acre property in 2018 for $2.3 million.
The property was listed on Zillow.com as having 150 feet of ocean frontage, with the prepared land 17 to 27 feet above sea level. Cleared space on the property is hidden from the road by a wooded area.
