• Adm. James Stavridis, Commander of the United States European Command and the Supreme Allied Commander, Europe, told 840 attendees at the 8th Annual Military Appreciation Luncheon on Monday at the Hyatt Downtown that the military must change to deal with the challenges of the 21st century. Changes include “brain-on-brain” warfare by reading, studying, teaching, training, developing new technology and learning more languages. “We will not deliver security for the nation solely from the barrel of a gun,” said Stavridis. But make no mistake, he said. “If we are called upon to deliver lethal force, we will do so professionally, capably and we are the best in the world at it.” The annual event is hosted by the Jacksonville Regional Chamber of Commerce.
