Gemstone Media wins Emmy for ‘Driving Amelia’

The Jacksonville company produced the documentary covering the 25th Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance.

Jacksonville-based Gemstone Media Inc. announced it received a 2021 Emmy Award from the National Academy of Television and Arts & Science for Best Coverage. 

Gemstone said it is its third NATAS Emmy Award and is based on its production excellence, creativity and coverage of the 25th Amelia Island’s Concours d’Elegance.

Gemstone, a video production company, produced “Driving Amelia” is a one-hour nationally televised documentary covering the 25th Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance.

“‘Driving Amelia’ is about automobile enthusiasts and owners and the passion that drives them,” said Executive Producer Ray Hays in a news release.

“The documentary includes stories with legendary drivers, the Cannonball Run, and how NASCAR teams used to ‘bend’ the rules.”

He said the show, shot in 4K, featured stories including how prewar banter gave birth to the Jeep, how a team of children judged the cars, and the experience of driving the Eight-Flags Road Tour.

Gemstone Media partnered with Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance and its foundation. The release said proceeds from the commercial sponsorship of the program benefited the foundation, which donated about $4 million to charities.

“When video is done right, it can have a powerful and lasting effect. Hearts open. Minds change. Creativity thrives,” said Gemstone Media President Philip Green.
