D.R. Horton Inc. applied for a permit to clear 159 acres at 11499 Alta Drive for a 502-lot single-family residential development at a cost of $1.26 million.

The property is north of Faye Road and between Yellow Bluff and New Berlin roads.

Dunn & Associates Inc. is the civil engineer.

City Council enacted an ordinance in April to rezone almost 279 acres there for the Alta Lakes development.

The property was rezoned from one planned unit development to another.

According to a statement released by the company, Alta Lakes is a 280-acre development that will feature its D.R. Horton and Express Homes brands, several lakes and an amenity center.

Development for Alta Lakes is scheduled to begin in August, with sales expected to start in summer 2018. Pricing is projected to be from the $180,000s to the low-$300,000s.

D.R. Horton bought the land June 1 from First-Citizens Bank & Trust Co. for $4.5 million.

Documents filed with the legislation show up to 505 single-family homes on almost 79 acres, along with 121 acres of passive open space, 33 acres of public and private right-of-way, 23 acres of recreation and open space and 23 acres of other uses.

The site clearing appears to cover all but the passive open space.
