A Candlewood Suites hotel is proposed near Mayport.
Plans filed with the city show a 61-room, 33,000-square-foot Candlewood on 1.08 acres along Mayport Road at Brazeale Lane.
The site is north of Dutton Island Road West.
The city issued Concurrency Reservation and Mobility Fee Calculation certificates for the project Nov. 29. The mobility fee, based on projected traffic impacts, is $60,477.
The property owner is Cross Development CC Jacksonville Mayport LLC and the agent is Fred Atwill Jr.
Cross Development, of Carrollton, Texas, bought 5.5 acres along Mayport Road a year ago and developed a Caliber Collision center this year on part of the property.
Candlewood is planned next to the collision center.
The hotel is one of several planned for Northeast Florida.
Hyatt Place, Tru by Hilton, Home2 Suites by Hilton, Hampton Inn and Courtyard by Marriott hotels are proposed for at least eight sites around the area.
Aldi Haines City Division Vice President Matt Thon said it is too early to provide details about plans for a Nassau County store included in a St. Johns River Water Management District submittal.
Asked if there are plans for more Nassau County Aldi stores, Thom said the company looks at factors that include population density, proximity to competition, cost of property and traffic patterns before choosing a site.
“We want to be conveniently located for our growing customer base, and Northeast Florida is a great area for Aldi,” he said.
Aldi operates five stores in Duval and Clay counties and is working on plans for five more. Each employs about 15 to 20 people, meaning the company anticipates 150 to 200 employees with the first 10 stores.
“We streamline our approach to staffing to create cost-saving efficiencies that are passed onto customers,” Thon said.
Aldi employees working at least 25 hours per week receive health insurance benefits and dental coverage, and all employees can participate in the company’s 401(k) program.
The city issued a permit Wednesday for CSX Corp. to continue renovations at its 15-story Downtown headquarters building for its first-floor coffee shop and second-floor cafeteria.
The permit calls for renovations of $209,840.
CSX also submitted plans to the city for $717,960 in upgrades for the second-floor dining area, servery and kitchen along with creating two private dining areas.
The railroad company previously applied for a total of $1.35 million in renovations for the first and second floor coffee shop and cafeteria areas. The entire project covers 19,820 square feet.
Auld & White Constructors LLC is the contractor.
Spokesman Rob Doolittle previously said the renovations include the addition of a small concession space, a drop-off dry cleaner service and other enhancements to the first floor and upgrades to the kitchen equipment and layout of the cafeteria on the second floor.
The work comes after approval for the $2.3 million interior demolition and renovation of the 15th floor executive offices.
That 20,450-square-foot project includes remodeling for offices, conference rooms, a recording studio, café, a warming kitchen and the C-suite.
The city also issued a permit Tuesday for CSX to renovate 3,300 square feet of office space at its dispatch center at 3019 Warrington St. Duckworth Construction Co. is the contractor.
