Wayfair Inc., the Boston-based online home-furnishings seller, is hiring a warehouse supervisor for a Jacksonville center to manage and oversee the operations.

Wayfair doesn’t have a warehouse here – yet.

Wayfair declined comment.

There are several projects that could accommodate a large warehouse, particularly the proposed 1.5 million-square-foot “Project Jaguar” at AllianceFlorida at Cecil Commerce Center.

The St. Johns River Water Management District and the city are reviewing that project, which indicates Hillwood anticipates construction could start soon.

Dan Tatsch, senior vice president of Dallas-based Hillwood, Cecil’s master developer, declined comment Thursday.

Smaller warehouses also are proposed or in development around Jacksonville in sizes up to more than 500,000 square feet.

Industry sources said months ago that the $5.7 billion revenue Wayfair retailer was looking at Northeast Florida for a distribution center.

The warehouse supervisor position, which pays $59,575 a year, was posted five months ago.

Wayfair might already be hiring. Another posted Jacksonville job, process quality manager, is no longer available. It was posted June 21.

The posting said Wayfair was “embarking on a series of strategic supply chain initiatives.”

The manager would play a central role in those and “taking more control over the Final Mile Home Delivery network.”

Plans labeled “Project Jaguar” show it next to the 1 million-square-foot Amazon.com Jacksonville fulfillment center along 103rd Street. Wayfair says that customers can select from more than 10 million items among home furnishings, décor, home improvement, housewares and more items.

Its sites include Wayfair, Joss & Main, Birch Lane and Perigold.

It operates throughout North America and Europe and employs more than 9,700 people.

In its annual report filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission, Wayfair said that in addition to its leased Boston headquarters space and additional offices in London and Berlin, it occupies about 8 million square feet of fulfillment center space in the U.S., Canada, Germany and the United Kingdom.

It also leases additional office space in the U.S. and internationally for customer service centers.

Hillwood has history with Wayfair. Hillwood and Dermody Properties developed an almost 900,000-square-foot facility in Kentucky that was named “Industrial Deal of the Year” in 2015 by that area’s chapter of the NAIOP Commercial Real Estate Development Association.
